Create an adventure using the Adventure Creator Tool within Spore Galactic Adventures.

Winners will get a fully paid visit, including reasonable, economy class travel costs and accommodation for up to two nights where necessary, for your team of 2-3, or you if creating individually, and a parent or guardian to Electronic Arts headquarters in California. Get to mingle with other winners and with an EA designer.

WHAT IS GAME CHANGERS?

To participate in the Game Changers competition you must submit both a movie of your team’s adventure to YouTube and publish your team’s adventure to www.spore.com using the in game publish feature.

Your YouTube Adventure Movie Submission should be tagged with “GameChangersSBC2010”, and must include the following information in the description:

ADVENTURE TITLE: Your adventure name here
TEAM NAME: Your team name here
TEAM MEMBERS: Your team’s Spore screen names listed here
ADVENTURE LINK: Your link to the adventure card in Sporepedia
You must also publish your team’s adventure to spore.com and include the
following information in the description:
TEAM NAME: Your team name here
TEAM MEMBERS: Your screen names listed here
Your adventures must be tagged GameChangersSBC2010

JUDGING CRITERIA

• Is the goal of the adventure clear?
• Is the difficulty of the adventure high enough to be fun, but easy enough to be completed by anyone?
• Does the challenge increase throughout the adventure?
• Are players rewarded for completing challenges and solving puzzles?
• Is the adventure fully textured?
• Do the visuals enhance the gaming experience?
• Are creatures original?

The Kids Competition begins at 5:00 PM PST on May 3, 2010, and closes at 5:00 PM PST on May 21, 2010.

Official Rules

I. To Enter
Step 1: Create an original Spore Adventure
Step 2: Tag your Adventure with “GameChangersSBC2010” and include the following information in the description:
Team Name: Your team name here
Team Members: Your screen names listed here
Step 3: Publish your Adventure to the Spore online server.
Step 4: Publish your Adventure to YouTube and include the following information in the description:
Adventure Title: Your Adventure name here
Team Name: Your team name here
Team Members: Your team’s screen names listed here
Adventure link: Your link to the adventure card in Sporepedia
Step 5: Submission materials must also be completed at www.dmlcompetition.net

II.Winner Selection

A number of Adventures will be selected among all qualifying entries received by 5 PM PST on May 21, 2010. Winners will be determined by a small panel of expert judges informed by the rating of the adventures. Finalists will be Adventures that qualify as “Highly Rated” on the Sporepedia. Qualifying Finalists will be judged by the Spore panel of experts. Winners will be selected based on “Creativity” and “Playability”. The winners will be notified by email within 6 weeks of the Closing Date.

III. Prizes
Winners will receive no cash or other alternative will be offered in whole or in part. Prizes are nontransferable and no substitutions are allowed.

IV.Odds of Winning
The odds of winning depend on number of valid entries received.

V. Eligibility
The Competition is open to anyone under the age of 18. Return of any prize/prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and an alternate winner will be selected. If the winner is a minor, then the prize will be awarded to winner’s parent or legal guardian. By acceptance of prize, winners agree to the use of their name and/or likenesses for purposes of advertising, trade, or promotion without further compensation, unless prohibited by law. Employees of the Sponsor and their respective parents, subsidiaries, agencies, and affiliates and each of their related companies and their immediate families are not eligible. Neither the Sponsor nor their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, agencies, divisions nor related companies are responsible for any damages, taxes, or expenses that winners might incur as a result of this contest or receipt of the prize.

VI. Rules
Adventures must be received no later than 5 PM PST on May 21, (“Closing Date”). Limit: one entry per person. All entries will be considered made by the authorized account holder of the email address used to create the Adventure. Subsequent entries will be disqualified. The Sponsors are not responsible for lost, late, mutilated, illegible, incomplete or misdirected entries. Sponsors are not responsible for technical, hardware or software failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions which may limit an entrant’s ability to participate in the Competition. Sponsors reserve the right to reject any entries that they deem, in their sole discretion, to be inappropriate including, but not limited to, any entries that contain gratuitous depictions of violence or sexual behavior, or depictions of alcohol or tobacco. The entry must be the original, unpublished and sole work of the entrant. The entry cannot defame or invade the rights or privacy of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringe upon any third party personal or proprietary rights. If the Contest is canceled for any reason, winners will be selected from among all entries received prior to cancellation and all prizes will be awarded based upon their status at the close of the Competition.
By submitting an entry, you warrant that the entry you submit is all your own work, original and unpublished and that any materials or information used by you in creating your entry do not and will not infringe the intellectual property, moral or other rights of any third party and you agree to indemnify the Sponsors from and against all claims, demands, costs, losses, expenses and damages arising in respect of any third party intellectual property infringement. You further warrant that you have not entered into (and shall not enter into) any agreement or arrangement and have not done (and shall not do) any act or thing which shall (or might) inhibit, restrict or impair the free and unrestricted use and exploitation of the intellectual property rights in the entry.

VII. Winner’s Name
Winning entrants will be published on the Digital Media and Learning Competition website (www.dmlcompetition.net) in early June 2010.

VIII. Restrictions
Void where prohibited or restricted by law. No entries allowed from family members of the Electronic Arts Corporation or University of California Humanities Research Institue or HASTAC Duke emplyees.

IX. No purchase necessary.
Making a purchase will not improve chances of winning.

X. Sponsor
HASTAC Duke and the University of California, Irvine/University of California Humanities Research Institute, and Electronic Arts Corporation. Supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
